I know I’m pushing the boundaries of timeliness here…but wanted to let people in on a couple of the interesting conversations going on at the SXSW Psycho Beach Party divx Night at the Museum movie download Interactive Event this year. Most conversations were revolving around social media – how it’s shaping the industry (for better or for worse) and what we as a group are going to do about it. Most importantly, it was a healthy discussion about how we can use those tools to promote activism and spur real, thoughtful exchange of ideas between every group. It also became very obvious that people are very attached to their social networking…some emotional opinions from all sides…
While the buzz was definitely around social media and it’s future relevance, I was struck by the conversations surrounding the human connection and how important that still is. Everything we do is directed toward an individual and meant to spark an emotion or a reaction/action. We met some very good people and spent much of our time with the SoDA
The Hunchback of Notre Dame video The Clan of the Cave Bear movie download Man Hunt move group discussing just some of these topics. SoDA sponsored a great mixer party at a local pub and hosted a very interesting, informal discussion dubbed the ‘Unconference’ to let the people decide what they wanted to discuss and focus on. Along those same lines was a great talk from Tony Hsieh – the CEO of Zappos. It centered around the idea that good deeds can lead to good business – in their case – extraordinary customer service. Podcast is here.
Here’s a couple other talks I found most interesting –

1. Texas
2. Jermany’s tender affections
3. Stubb’s
4. Social media catfights
5. Watching Mino bask in the sickening come-ons of the interactive groupies
Maybe next year, eh?
