I know I’m pushing the boundaries of timeliness here…but wanted to let people in on a couple of the interesting conversations going on at the SXSW Psycho Beach Party divx Night at the Museum movie download Interactive Event this year. Most conversations were revolving around social media – how it’s shaping the industry (for better or for worse) and what we as a group are going to do about it. Most importantly, it was a healthy discussion about how we can use those tools to promote activism and spur real, thoughtful exchange of ideas between every group. It also became very obvious that people are very attached to their social networking…some emotional opinions from all sides…
While the buzz was definitely around social media and it’s future relevance, I was struck by the conversations surrounding the human connection and how important that still is. Everything we do is directed toward an individual and meant to spark an emotion or a reaction/action. We met some very good people and spent much of our time with the SoDA
The Hunchback of Notre Dame video The Clan of the Cave Bear movie download Man Hunt move group discussing just some of these topics. SoDA sponsored a great mixer party at a local pub and hosted a very interesting, informal discussion dubbed the ‘Unconference’ to let the people decide what they wanted to discuss and focus on. Along those same lines was a great talk from Tony Hsieh – the CEO of Zappos. It centered around the idea that good deeds can lead to good business – in their case – extraordinary customer service. Podcast is here.
Here’s a couple other talks I found most interesting –

And of course we made some fantastic connections over Texas BBQ and brews!

We recently launched our GM Used Car Ambush site with Mullen and its getting quite a bit of attention. So, we figured it would be a good idea to give everyone a peek into how much work it took to put a site like this together. What you’re not going to see in this little Behind the Scenes post is our development team with singed retinas at 3 in the morning or Jon wielding a cutting torch instead of hucking at Snowbird on a Saturday morning. Definitely not FCC approved. Or GM Certified for that matter. Seriously, it was some very committed work on our end and some true collaboration with Mullen. We’re all really proud of it.
Regardless of the current decline of the auto industry (especially the Big 3) and the eventual move to a more sustainable fuel source, this site has some very cool details and we’re doing some things here in Flash that are completely unique. Thats how we roll…

checked out this event last weekend in seattle…a very cool benefit for kids in cambodia featuring World B Boy champs Massive Monkees, legendary Seattle photographer Charles Peterson, immigration activist Many Uch & photographer Stuart Isett.
made me think, experienced some radical breakdancing and maybe drank a brew or two. hey – it was for a good cause ;)
Tiny Toones was born in the Bassac slum area of Phnom Penh,Cambodia and provides free HIV/AIDS, health, drug awareness, performing arts and language education in English and Khmer to underprivileged youth. It also serves as a community center, with an open door policy, where hundreds of children have a positive environment to channel their energy into learning and performing arts. The group was founded by Tuy Sobil, a.k.a. KK, originally from Long Beach, who brought his b boy dance talents to the streets of Cambodia to help the country struggling to rebuild after 30 years of war.
Funds raised from the event will be used to support Tiny Toones as well as purchase a small mini-van so the kids can be driven safely to school, dance performances and rehearsals.
thats pretty cool.

ryan was spending some quality time with us up here in the portland studio, so we thought we’d share a traditonal portland breakfast with him – voodoo doughnuts. a bizarre mix of sugary goodness and local pide – voodoo creates the most unique pastries in town. yup – thats Cap’n Crunch Cereal on the doughnut…better than the bacon option…maybe.
